Jeffrey Stocker is the Founder and Director of the American Readers Theatre a 501(3)c not for profit arts organization that promotes literacy through the arts located in New  York City, Milford, Pennsylvania, and Portland, Oregon.


Last season at the National Arts Club he directed Frances Sternhagen and Jeremy Lawrence in “Mr. Williams and Miss Woods”, Joan Copeland in “I Can’t Remember Anything” and Tammy Grimes in “Shakespeare to Coward”.  Most recently he directed “The Hammerstone” at the Portland Civic Theatre Guild and “Charlotte’s Web” for the Beaverton Arts Commission. He has directed “The Cemetery Club” for the Presby Players in Port Jervis , NY and “To Kill A Mockingbird” for the national literacy campaign THE BIG READ in Pike County, Pennsylvania.


He has been awarded grants from the Noel Coward Foundation, Christopher D. Smithers Foundation and the National Endowment For The Arts. He has had the great honor to work directly with Edward Albee and Christopher Durang. He has been a member of the National Arts Club since 1982 and served as a Board of Governor and is the current Chair of the Theatre/Drama Committee.


As a professional acting coach for stage he has taught Tony Award winners Karen Ziemba (CONTACT) and Melissa Jaret (HAIRSPRAY). For the screen he has coached Rory Caulkin in the upcoming Joel Schumacher’s film “12”. He has served on the faculty of the Portland Festival Ballet, Joffrey Ballet School, and the Magnus Midwest Dance teaching “Acting For The Dancer” an acting course he designed for the classical ballet dancer. This past Fall he taught a Master Class in “Auditioning for Musical Theatre” at Portland Center Stage, directed “Animal Farm” for the Beaverton Arts Commission, and returned to the East Coast to direct three new plays in NYC for ART/Writer’s Lab.
